WARD 3 COMMUNITY UPDATE JULY 2020

As York Region will be entering Stage 3 this Friday, please see below re-opening updates for Richmond Hill.

Drive-In Concert Series:
The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts will offer three drive-in concerts in the month of August which provides an opportunity for the community to come together to enjoy the traditional concerts-in-the-park events from the comfort of their vehicles and spend some quality family time in a safe environment. The three concerts will be free to residents
• Take place in the parking lot of Tom Graham Arena
• Will accommodate up to 200 cars parked with physical distancing
• 3 concerts offered as follows;
o Thursday August 13 – ABBA Mania
o Thursday August 20 – British Legends
o Thursday August 27 – Simply the Best

Permits – Sports Fields, Parks and Indoor Facilities
• September is set to have all facilities ready to open
• Ball Diamonds are all available for permitting. Permitting for the renovated ball diamonds in David Hamilton Park is expected to begin July 21, 2020
• Soccer fields are all available for permitting
• Volleyball courts at Lake Wilcox Park are available for permitting
• Wedding ceremonies and wedding photos are available at Richmond Green
• Permits for up to 100 people in outdoor settings will be issued for picnics, fundraising activities such as small walkathons etc. (pending clarification of Stage 3)

Arenas
• Ed Sackfield ice pad (new NHL pad) to be open August 4th primarily to accommodate the needs of the 3 local figure skating clubs; additional permits will be considered
• Tom Graham twin pad to be ready for use by mid-August (September 1st at the latest)
• Based on re-opening plans for major ice user groups, Elgin Barrow twin pad, Bond Lake and Elvis Stojko arena will be opened in September as required

Pools
• August 10th – open Centennial Pool for Richmond Hill Aquatic Club (RHAC), Lane and Leisure Swims.
• September 1st – open Richvale Pool and Elgin West Pool for RHAC permits (RCC), Lane and Leisure swims, and Aquafit classes
• October – we will monitor the demand from community through September and consider opening Bayview Hill and Oak Ridges pools
• Wave Pool to remain closed for remainder of 2020. This pool is designed as attraction facility where sauna, water slide and other features are the main attraction. These features are not permitted in Stage 3. Saunas, water slide and water features remain closed

Fitness Centres
• August 10th – target date to reopen Oak Ridge’s Fitness Centre (weight room only)
• September – add membership fitness classes city wide
• September – target to re-open Ed Sackfield Fitness Centre, including the walking track
• Bayview Hill Fitness to remain closed for the remainder of 2020 as physical distancing will be difficult with the tight space

Community Centres
• Elgin West, Bayview Hill, Richvale, Oak Ridges, Rouge Woods and McConaghy are being prepared to re-open for fall programs/permits for mid-Sept.
• Staff at Langstaff Community Centre will be working with the two school boards as they roll out their plans for the children to return to the classrooms.
• Indoor space is restricted to 50 people. New room capacities are being developed for all sites, based on physical distancing requirements
• David Dunlap Observatory (DDO) will remain closed through the construction period and staff will re-evaluate the opening where appropriate to do so

Richmond Green Sports Centre & Richmond Green Sports Dome
• Open Richmond Green Sports Dome mid-September
• Open Richmond Green Sports Dome mid- October

Heritage Centre/Museum
• Will remain closed for the remainder of 2020. Currently under construction.

Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts
• Program planning for a maximum capacity of 50 patrons has begun that would incorporate live performance, video and film:
o Primary focus is a celebration of Richmond Hill based artists
o Film series featuring films by Richmond Hill artists
o Screening of music videos featuring Richmond Hill and York Region based musicians
o Development of shadow style performance featuring Richmond Hill based performers
o Develop Family programming opportunities

Virtual Programs
o Develop and implement afterschool virtual programming
o Develop scope of virtual arts related programming for 55+ community
o Establish time line for 55+ virtual program implementation

Splash Pads
• 13 facilities opened by June 19th
• Crosby and Richvale pads opened July 10th
