Emergency Preparedness Week is a national event that encourages everyone to take simple steps to be ready for any emergency, at any time of year. This year’s themes are “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.” and “Plan for Every Season.” Emergencies can happen at any time-whether it’s a severe storm, power outage, flood, or extreme temperatures. - Intersection improvements on Bayview Avenue at David Dunlap Boulevard/Ardwold Gate, Weldrick Road and Palmer Avenue

- Upgrading traffic control signals and lighting; temporary signals will be in place during construction 

- Enhancing audible pedestrian signals and tactile walking surface indicators to alert people with low or no vision of an upcoming intersection 

- Reconstructing crosswalk ramps at signalized and non-signalized intersections

City of Richmond Hill is once again organizing the annual Clean Up, Green Up Weeks event to give our city a spring cleaning. Last year in Ward 3, a total of over 800 volunteers signed up, and cleaned various streets, pathways, parks, school yards, and other open spaces in Ward 3. I am organizing 3 clean up sessions in various Ward 3 communities:

Richmond Hill Council approved another 18 locations where traffic calming tools, including speed cushions and pedestrian crossovers, will be installed in 2025, to continue to reduce speeding and improve safety on roads in our community.

These were installed as part of the implementation of the City’s Traffic Safety and Operations Strategy which helped improve compliance to the speed limit, reduce speeding in neighborhoods by up to 22% and decrease traffic volume by up to 17%.

As part of the 2025 traffic calming implementation, 3 locations in Ward 3 have been selected based on the results of the City's network screening exercise.

The City of Richmond Hill is pleased to inform you that construction at Bayview Hill Park is underway.  The work will include site demolition, tree removals, site servicing (gas, sanitary, storm, water, electrical, subdrains and communication), washroom building, splash pad/Ice rink, playground, multiuse sport court, tennis and pickleball courts, site grading, concrete and asphalt paving, shade structures, ornamental fencing with piers, site furnishings, signage, tree and shrub planting, seeding and sodding. 

As a measure of safety, sections of the park will be closed during construction and residents are asked to refrain from entering the construction areas. Thank you in advance for your patience during the construction phase of this project.

Project Update:  Construction is progressing well.  We are working towards opening the Pickleball and Tennis courts by fall 2024 (weather permitting), with the rest of the park anticipated to be completed by Summer 2025.

The City of Richmond Hill and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) are working together to analyze the conditions of the Upper Rouge River in the valleylands north and south of Toporowski Avenue to find a solution that will allow for suitable drainage in the area.

The tentative preferred solution includes the following:

- A complete corridor reconstruction, re-establishing a low flow channel and reducing the floodplain;

- Removal of the sediment build-up in the valleyland channel; and

- Removal of invasive plants and the development of a management plan to combat future growth of invasive plants.

This study is nearing completion, with the next phase of detailed design scheduled to start in 2025.

Plans are underway to improve the playground at Lilac Grove Parkette located at 251 Shirley Drive. This includes the replacement of the play equipment, safety surfacing, site furniture, some walkways, a new shade structure, and planting. Construction is scheduled for 2026, pending budget approval.
