Many residents have raised concerns about frequent U-turns at Major Mackenzie Drive East and Forestwood Street. After years of advocacy with York Region, I’m pleased to share that a “No U-Turn” sign will be installed this April.
York Region will implement a westbound U-turn restriction at this intersection. As part of the Region’s Vision Zero Traveller Safety Plan, this measure is intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for all road users.
The Province of Ontario transitioned the blue box program to a new model that makes producers of recyclable materials responsible for their collection and processing instead of municipalities.
As of January 1, 2026, residential recycling in Richmond Hill is managed by Circular Materials (CM), a non-profit organization that represents producers. CM has contracted Miller Waste to collect your blue box recycling and manage customer service inquiries. You will continue to receive uninterrupted recycling collection service on your regular collection day.
The City is looking for caring individuals to help keep our kids safe on their way to and from school. For more information and application, please visit the following website.
Richmond Hill Council approved another 18 locations where traffic calming tools, including speed cushions and pedestrian crossovers, will be installed in 2025, to continue to reduce speeding and improve safety on roads in our community.
These were installed as part of the implementation of the City’s Traffic Safety and Operations Strategy which helped improve compliance to the speed limit, reduce speeding in neighborhoods by up to 22% and decrease traffic volume by up to 17%.
As part of the 2025 traffic calming implementation, 3 locations in Ward 3 have been selected based on the results of the City's network screening exercise.
1/ Frank Endean Road (Cameo Drive - Cassata Ave.)
2/ Strathearn Avenue (16th Ave - Weldrick Road East)
3/ Princeton Avenue (Redstone Road - Leslie St)

The City of Richmond Hill and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) are working together to analyze the conditions of the Upper Rouge River in the valleylands north and south of Toporowski Avenue to find a solution that will allow for suitable drainage in the area.
The tentative preferred solution includes the following:
- A complete corridor reconstruction, re-establishing a low flow channel and reducing the floodplain;
- Removal of the sediment build-up in the valleyland channel; and
- Removal of invasive plants and the development of a management plan to combat future growth of invasive plants.
This study is nearing completion, with the next phase of detailed design scheduled to start in 2025.
Plans are underway to improve the playground at Lilac Grove Parkette located at 251 Shirley Drive. This includes the replacement of the play equipment, safety surfacing, site furniture, some walkways, a new shade structure, and planting. Construction is scheduled for 2026, pending budget approval.
Once again, pay parking at Lake Wilcox Park will be in effect April 1 through September 30. Richmond Hill residents are invited to get their free parking permit for the park and community centre online at Parking.RichmondHill.ca.
Lake Wilcox Park is one of Richmond Hill’s Destination Parks, attracting thousands of visitors from Richmond Hill and beyond for its unique combination of beautiful waterfront scenery and family-friendly amenities. Pay parking helps ensure visitors from outside Richmond Hill contribute to park monitoring and maintenance.
Parking for non-residents and those without permits costs $4 per hour at the Oak Ridges Community Centre, the skate park and the north gravel lots and $7 per hour at the main/splash pad lot.
