2018 October Edition

Dear Ward 3 Residents,

The 2018 Municipal Elections in Ontario is less than three weeks away. Registered voters in Richmond Hill will head to the polls on Monday, October 22, 2018. This year, I am humbled and honored to inform you that I have been elected by acclamation as your Ward 3 councillor. I look forward to continue serving our community for four more years.

As a reminder, Ward 3 residents still need to elect a Mayor, two Regional Councillors, and  a School Trustee.

If you are on the Voter’s List, you should have received a Voter Notification Card in mid-September. This card includes information about where to vote during the Advance Polls and on Voting Day.

VIDEO – Suspect sought following assault with a weapon in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are releasing video surveillance and requesting public assistance to identify a suspect following an assault with a weapon in the Town of Richmond Hill.

On Tuesday, August 28, 2018, shortly after 11 a.m., York Regional Police responded to a weapons call in a parking lot on Granton Drive in the area of 16th Avenue and Leslie Street. When officers arrived, they located a victim suffering from non-life-threatening head injuries. He was transported to hospital and was later released. Investigators learned that the victim had arrived at the building and got out of his vehicle to retrieve some items from his trunk. Suddenly, an unknown male suspect ran at him and began striking him in the head with an unknown object.

The victim was able to run into the building to call for help. The suspect fled the scene and got into the passenger side of a white Chevrolet.

The suspect is described as:

Male, Black

25 to 30 years

Wearing a dark blue or grey hoodie, black shorts with three orange stripes on the side and black running shoes

Santa Claus Parade

Richmond Hill’s Santa Claus Parade brings the holiday spirit to life each year for spectators of all ages. This popular night time parade attracts thousands and features a number of diverse floats, walking groups and marching bands from in and around the community. This year’s theme is Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!

Date: Saturday, November 17, 2018

Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Location: Beginning at William F. Bell Parkway and travelling south on Leslie Street and ending at Performance Drive.

This week is Fire Prevention Week!

It’s your responsibility to keep your family and home safe from fires. Here are some tips on what to do:

  • Prevent fires before they start
  • Maintain working smoke alarms on every floor of your home and outside every sleeping area
  • Plan and practice a home escape plan
  • Consider installing residential sprinklers when building a new home or doing major renovations

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has public education and media resources to help fire services educate their community. Richmond Hill has lots of information about fire prevention and safety.
